Fujairah is where much of the UAE goes to camp. The east coast has long beaches, the Hajar mountains rise just behind, and in between are wadis and farmland. The autocomplete suggests every variation: camping site, beach, chalet, area, family, near the beach. Here is what separates them.

Beach camping

The Gulf of Oman is calmer and cooler in the evening than the Gulf side, and the east-facing coast gives a sunrise over the water. Beach camping is simple and popular, and it has its own hazards: tide, wind, and the fact that many beaches are public, busy at weekends and have rules about fires and noise.

  • Pitch above the high-tide line and check the tide table.
  • Do not light fires unless the site allows them.
  • Take all rubbish with you.
  • Take care with swimming at night and with children.

Wadi camping

Dry riverbeds in the Hajar are cool at night and scenic. The risk is flash flooding. Never pitch in the channel, check the forecast for the whole mountain range, and leave if rain threatens anywhere upstream.

Mountain camping

Higher sites are cooler and windier. Winter nights can be cold, and access can involve rough tracks that need a 4x4.

The season

November to March is best. Summer nights are warm and humid on the coast, and the mountains offer only modest relief.

Rules

Camping rules differ between public beaches, protected areas and private land, and they change. We do not operate campsites and cannot give you the current rulebook. Check with the Fujairah authorities or the site operator and follow signage.

A note on what we do. We do not run campsites or events on beaches, in wadis or on mountains in Fujairah, because that needs a licence we do not hold. If you are planning an event rather than a camping trip, we design and produce events inside Fujairah's hotels and ballrooms. See events in Fujairah.
