Anniversaries in the Desert: Small, Private and Deliberately Simple

Anniversary bookings are the ones where we most often talk clients down rather than up. People arrive with a list, fire show, live band, floral installation, drone shots, and what they actually want is an evening where they can hear each other.

The dinner for two

One table, lanterns, a served three-course dinner, and a whole site with nobody else on it. No programme, no performers, no photographer unless asked.

It is the least produced thing we offer and among the most booked. The landscape and the silence do the work. Couples who arrive expecting to feel they should have added more generally do not. It is a fixture on our own list of romantic things to do in Abu Dhabi, and for a reason: almost nothing else on that list removes every other person from the setting entirely.

The milestone with family

Twenty-fifth, fortieth, fiftieth, with children and grandchildren. Different requirements entirely: majlis seating so three generations can sit comfortably, a menu that suits older guests, firm matted routes, seating close to the drop-off, and a shaded rest area.

Speeches work well here, and they need real sound reinforcement, open sand swallows an unamplified voice and the people who most want to hear a speech are usually the ones least able to.

The renewal of vows

Structurally a small wedding without the licensing. A simple aisle, a focal point against the dune line, seating for the people who matter, and dinner afterwards. Golden hour timing, same as a ceremony.

Because there is no legal element, lead times are shorter and the day is more flexible, a genuine advantage that couples rarely realise.

What actually makes these work

• Timing to the light. Arrive forty minutes before sunset. Everything else follows.
• Restraint in programming. One act, or none. Silence is the product.
• Real privacy. A private buyout, not a section of a shared camp.
• Time afterwards. Do not schedule a departure right after dinner. The best part is the hour by the fire nobody planned.
• Comfort for older guests. The single most common oversight at family milestones.

The cost conversation

Small private bookings carry a high per-head figure and it surprises people. The site, the build, the crew and the strike cost roughly the same whether two people or eighty are there. You are not buying covers; you are buying the site for a day.

Worth saying plainly: if the number matters more than the exclusivity, a good restaurant will serve you better. If having nobody else there is the point, this is the only way to get it. October to April at any hour; summer as an evening with cooling. Two weeks' notice is comfortable for a small booking, and we have delivered in less.

Can you arrange a photographer discreetly?

Yes, positioned at distance with a long lens, or not at all if you would rather it stayed private.

What if we want it very simple?

Then keep it simple. We will not upsell a programme onto an evening that does not want one.
